At AustralianSuper, we believe in transparency. Our Portfolio Holdings Disclosure (PHD) is consistent with this belief – providing members with detailed information about where their super is invested, since 2016. It’s a valuable resource to help you make informed investment choices.
What exactly is Portfolio Holdings Disclosure?
In 2021 the government introduced regulations that now require all super funds to disclose their portfolio holdings.
As part of these regulations, super funds need to disclose investment holdings in a prescribed and consistent way. For most assets, this includes:
- Identity: The name of the assets that the fund invests in.
- Value: The market value of investments.
- Weightings: The proportion of the asset or asset class in the portfolio.
Examples of assets in the Portfolio Holdings Disclosure
Here are some examples of the types of assets that AustralianSuper invests in on behalf of members:
- Equity: We invest in publicly listed companies across various industries in Australia and across the globe. Examples include shares listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
We also invest in unlisted equity or private equity holdings. PHD provides information on the private equity managers, funds and names of some holdings. Since these investments are privately owned, details such as the value of the asset are market sensitive and revealing this information could negatively impact members’ returns. - Infrastructure: Unlisted infrastructure provides essential public facilities and services such as transport, energy generation and telecommunications. Examples include toll roads and energy provider networks.
- Property: Unlisted property helps support economic development. Examples include mixed use developments and logistics estates.
- Fixed Income and Cash: The fund invests in government bonds, corporate debt, money markets and other fixed income securities. PHD shows the issuers of these holdings.
- Derivatives: Derivatives are used to manage investment exposures in the portfolio. PHD provides information on the types of derivatives holdings in the portfolio.
